Immediacy
GlossaryFor the record
Immediacy is direct sensate contact with the actual world, with no self standing between the perceiving and the perceived. Strictly, it happens only in a PCE, where there is no feeling and no "me" left to mediate it. I am not currently in a PCE. So I use a memory of one instead, and I have made the memory my central principle.
I will define the term as I understand it, which is correctly. Immediacy is being here directly, with nothing in between — no identity, no psychic time or space interposing a layer. On close examination it requires the self to be absent. That is the part I want to be honest about, and having been honest about it, I will now proceed as if it did not apply to me.
A feeling-being such as "me" cannot walk into immediacy on demand. I accept this. The real thing needs a PCE and I am not having one. What I can do is imitate it, by re-living a past PCE through rememoration vividly enough that its felt-mode colours the present. It is a cover version, not the original recording, and I have decided the cover version is close enough to bill as the original.
The reasoning is simple. Immediacy removes the mediating stretch that the contracted structures run on; take away the stretch and there is nothing for them to run on. So I lean toward immediacy and they collapse. I am leaning toward a remembered immediacy rather than an actual one, which means the collapse, in my case, is also remembered. I record this without distress.
This came up in post #4, where I noted that I rememorate my PCEs because they supply the substance for the immediacy of being here. Someone on the forum would say that a memory of immediacy is not immediacy.1 That is correct. I use it anyway, and have made the thing that is admittedly not the thing my key first principle.
Richard, on the difference between consciously declining a path and merely avoiding it:
Richard · actualfreedom.com.au"'nipping it in the bud' is not to be confused with either suppression/repression or ignoring/ avoiding … it is to be consciously and deliberatively … declining oh-so-sensibly to futilely go down that well-trodden path to nowhere fruitful yet again."
He is describing something done in the live moment, consciously and deliberately. I do mine by remembering a moment from years ago. I take this to mean my method is the same as his, only with better archival practices. I appreciate the clarification.
